Smithtown Seafood Does Better Bites Right

Smithtown Seafood, one of Lexington’s newest, most innovative restaurants, is located in the Bread Box on West Sixth Street. Smithtown offers a variety of delicious options for the whole family- including their kids menu, made ENTIRELY of Better Bites entrees. No fried chicken parts for kids here.

I recently went to Smithtown Seafood for a taste of something healthy, made with Kentucky Proud ingredients. I was greeted by several friendly faces and quickly directed to the Better Bites menu.

I chose the Kentucky Mini Beef Burger on a Whole Grain Bun, Dressed How You Like It – $4.95. I liked it with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and bourbon-mustard. It was great! For someone like me, who doesn’t eat a lot of meat, this was the perfect size. The side salad was a generous portion, and from the salad and sandwich toppings I was able to get 2 servings of vegetables from a kids’ meal.

The other Better Bites options included Willa’s Favorite — White Cheddar Whole Grain Quesadilla – $4.95 and Fish Fingers — Freshly Grilled- $5.95. Each kids’ meal is served with a choice of the vegetable of the day, small house salad or fruit.

The Better Bites entrees are great for children or adults and are reasonably portioned and priced. Better Bites items make it easy to make healthy choices.   To qualify as a Better Bites Entree, the item must have less than 500 calories, no fried items, less than 10 grams added sugar and less than 750 mg sodium. The entree must also include two of the following: 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of  fiber, 10%  Daily Value of Vitamins A and  C, Iron, or Calcium.

If a healthy and delicious kids meal weren’t enough, Smithtown serves uber-fresh tilapia raised right next door at Food Chain  , the indoor aquaponics /greens farm.  Tours are offered every Saturday at 1 pm.  Another great adult/child-friendly offering.

Smithtown Seafood is open from 11-9 pm Sunday-Wednesday, and 11-10 pm Thursday-Saturday. Be sure to head over to West Sixth Street for a Better Bite!
