Speak up for healthy food—sometimes you’ll be heard!

Tweens Coalition member Casey Hinds filled out a KY State Park visitor comment card,  writing that she would like to see healthy food options on the resort menu.  The KY State Parks Commissioner, Elaine Walker, sent her an email thanking her for her suggestion.  Dots were connected and now all 17 KY State Parks Resorts have joined Better Bites:  Restaurant Edition. The KY State Parks staff reduced portion size, changed buns and bread to whole wheat and cut sodium and now five out of the six Kids’ Menu items meet Better Bites nutrition guidelines.    And instead of  getting an automatic order of fries on their plate,  young diners now automatically receive  fresh fruit and veggies with their  meals.

We have been  thoroughly  impressed with  how quickly and professionally the State Parks Food Service Staff (pictured below) made these changes.  We highly recommend visiting one of the wonderful KY State Park resorts  and ordering a Better Bite, whether you’re an adult or a kid!
